Position: Special Education Paraprofessional (Emotional and Behavioral Disorder Classroom)
The Special Education Paraprofessional provides direct instructional and behavioral support to students identified with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) in a self-contained classroom setting. Under the supervision of a certified special education teacher, the paraprofessional assists with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and supports students in accessing academic instruction.
Responsibilities include supporting instructional activities, implementing evidence-based behavior supports and de-escalation strategies, assisting with data collection related to behavioral and academic goals, helping maintain a structured and predictable learning environment, and ensuring student safety and dignity. The paraprofessional will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and related service providers to support students in developing social-emotional regulation, appropriate peer interactions, and academic progress.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required;
- Must meet paraprofessional requirements as defined by state and district guidelines;
- Ability to assist in the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), positive behavior supports, and de-escalation strategies;
- Ability to follow instructional plans, behavior intervention plans, and teacher direction with fidelity;
- Ability to follow instructional plans, behavior supports, and teacher direction with fidelity;
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements and compliance with IDEA and Georgia Department of Education special education rules;
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure when supporting students experiencing emotional or behavioral dysregulation;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Wayne County Board of Education and Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Salary and Contract: Salary commensurate with paraprofessional salary schedule and experience.
