Position Title:                Lead Teacher (Pre-K)

Work Days:                   190 Days

Reports To:                   Principal

FLSA Status:                 Exempt

Position Summary:  

As the lead teacher in a Bright from the Start GA Pre-K Classroom, you will plan lessons, instruct children, and collect student observational and performance data for activities according to our approved curriculum (designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development).  High Quality lead teachers are always prepared, have a deep understanding of GELDS, and recognize that Pre-K students learn best through purposeful play and inquiry based learning methods.

 

Education/Certification/License Requirements:

A Georgia’s Pre-K Program lead teacher MUST have a valid and current Georgia Educator Certificate OR hold one of the credentials listed in the Georgia’s Pre-K Program Provider’s Operating Guidelines.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Preschool students (4 years old by September 1), Assistant Teacher, Volunteers

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Creates a positive classroom climate through patient and positive interactions with students, staff, and families.
  2. Approaches all tasks with cheerful enthusiasm and energy.
  3. Maintains a safe and healthy learning environment while maintaining a teacher to student ratio of 1:11 (exception-Rest Time).
  4. Maintains a fun and interactive classroom that is clean and organized with center arrangement aligned to Bright from the Start guidance.
  5. Clearly communicates weekly expectations to the assistant teacher and shares lessons plans in a timely manner.
  6. Supports the assistant teacher to take on interchanging roles throughout the day as the class moves through the daily schedule.
  7. Effectively manages time to ensure high quality instructional planning which leads to developmentally appropriate pacing throughout the day.
  8. Plans for effective small groups each week and supports the assistant teacher so they confidently lead assigned small groups.
  9. Assists students during learning opportunities and offers feedback as necessary.
  10. Effectively uploads high quality artifacts and evidence into WSO for students each week.
  11. Supports the assistant teachers to document student observation data to assist with WSO evidence collection.
  12. Supports the language development of our students by modeling correct grammar usage and asks open ended questions while encouraging responses with complete sentences.
  13. Exhibits effective teacher proximity at all times.
  14. Creates age appropriate rituals and routines that lead to highly effective classroom management, PBIS, and relevant redirection of students.
  15. Appropriately monitors and manages behaviors of all students.
  16. Communicates effectively and creates professional partnerships with the families of our students; documents communication regularly.
  17. Maintains confidentiality about students and the educational program.
  18. Effectively operates standard school equipment such as Chromebooks, copy machines, and interactive boards.
  19. Ensures all materials on bulletin boards and displays are relevant and current.
  20. Participates in staff meetings, professional learning, serve on staff committees, and attend BFTS training sessions as required; strives to improve professional competence.
  21. Adheres to all Bright from the Start requirements.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

  3. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  4. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  5. Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  6. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  7. Must be able to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds.
  8. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
