POSITION SUMMARY

The School Diagnostician provides high-quality educational evaluations and diagnostic services for students with or suspected of having disabilities. This position supports the special education evaluation process by administering assessments (i.e. achievement testing, rating scales, etc…), interpreting data, preparing eligibility documentation, and collaborating with school teams to ensure timely, compliant, and student-centered decision-making. The diagnostician works closely with school psychologists, special education teachers, administrators, and families to promote accurate identification and appropriate instructional planning.

 


CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

·  Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Diagnostics, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.

·  Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission certification in a related area (Special Education, Educational Diagnostician, or equivalent).

·  Experience in administering educational assessments and interpreting academic data preferred.

·  Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered as determined by the Board of Education.

 


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Administer and score educational assessments for students referred for initial or reevaluation eligibility.

·  Score and summarize assessment results.

·  Participate in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and evaluation review meetings as needed.

·  Collaborate with teachers, school psychologists, administrators, and families to support accurate identification and appropriate instructional planning.

·  Assist with the evaluation process for preschool (ages 3–5) students, including participation in Child Find activities.

·  Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with IDEA, state rules, and district procedures.

·  Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director or other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent.

 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not supervise other employees.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

·  Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, school administrative teams, and district office leaders.

·  Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret assessment data accurately.

·  Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, and adherence to the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.

·  Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.

·  Ability to be present at the physical worksite.

·  Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

·  Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds.

·  Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communication skills are essential to performing required tasks.
