POSITION SUMMARY: The District Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator serves under the direct supervision of the Director of Federal Programs.
The District Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator will work directly with the Director of Federal Programs to implement and monitor the District’s Parent and Family Engagement Program, as outlined in Title I-A; as such, the Coordinator will serve as the District’s liaison for Parent and Family Engagement. The Coordinator will serve as the liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other; ensure that Title I, Part A parent and family engagement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity under this section of the law; educate teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students; provide opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement; help parents understand the school system so they can become better advocates for their children’s education; expand opportunities for continued learning, voluntary classroom service and school participation; advise and train parents on how to address issues with teachers and the school leadership staff; provide referrals for community-based services for families dealing with conditions that impact the academic achievement of their students; develop community collaborations; promote sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; provide supervision to District Parent Advisory Council meetings; coordinate with state, local, and regional organizations to promote parent and family engagement; provide outreach opportunities; plan and implement District-wide events and initiatives; maintain parent resource center (where applicable). The Coordinator is charged with maintaining accurate records and meeting all timelines established by the Georgia Department of Education Regional Director and the District Federal Programs Director.
