POSITION SUMMARY:  The District Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator serves under the direct supervision of the Director of Federal Programs.

The District Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator will work directly with the Director of Federal Programs to implement and monitor the District’s Parent and Family Engagement Program, as outlined in Title I-A; as such, the Coordinator will serve as the District’s liaison for Parent and Family Engagement.  The Coordinator will serve as the liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other; ensure that Title I, Part A parent and family engagement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity under this section of the law; educate teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students; provide opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement; help parents understand the school system so they can become better advocates for their children’s education; expand opportunities for continued learning, voluntary classroom service and school participation; advise and train parents on how to address issues with teachers and the school leadership staff; provide referrals for community-based services for families dealing with conditions that impact the academic achievement of their students; develop community collaborations; promote sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; provide supervision to District Parent Advisory Council meetings; coordinate with state, local, and regional organizations to promote parent and family engagement; provide outreach opportunities; plan and implement District-wide events and initiatives; maintain parent resource center (where applicable).  The Coordinator is charged with maintaining accurate records and meeting all timelines established by the Georgia Department of Education Regional Director and the District Federal Programs Director. 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE, EDUCATION, AND WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years’ teaching experience preferred
  • Holding a valid Georgia teaching license is preferred

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Coordinate with the Director of Federal Programs to ensure that the requirements of Title I-A are being met.
  2. Submit monthly Parent and Family Engagement documentation to the Director of Federal Programs.
  3. Provide monthly technical assistance to school-level Parent and Family Engagement facilitators.
  4. Meet monthly with school-level Parent and Family Engagement facilitators to ensure that timesheets, completion reports, and other documentation are being completed in a timely manner and in compliance with Federal statute, as well as state and local policies.
  5. Ensure that every school hosts events required by Title I-A, including the Title I Annual Meeting and Stakeholder Input Meetings.
  6. Collect and analyze school and District-level data to inform Parent and Family Engagement practices.
  7. Maintain a District Parent and Family Engagement website and work with schools to ensure that their websites are updated.
  8. Collect MOUs for each school-level Parent and Family Engagement facilitator.
  9. Submit timesheets to the Office of Federal Programs for the District and school-level Parent and Family Engagement facilitators on a monthly basis.
  10. Ensure that the District and schools are building teacher and staff capacity to increase parent and family engagement.
  11. Ensure that the District and schools are building parent capacity to increase engagement.
  12. Provide District-based training to increase parent and family engagement.
  13. Work with schools and District in revising and implementing the School Improvement Plans and District Improvement Plan in regard to Parent and Family Engagement.
  14. Adhere to all FERPA (student privacy) regulations. 
  15. Provide workshops, classes, and activities for parents at their local school(s), district, and/or community on a regular basis; recruit volunteers from the community to host various workshops and classes to speak directly with parents; provide school engagement materials such as event calendars, brochures, educational resources, videos and digital and social media; conduct professional learning training with all faculty and staff to determine school needs and discuss purposeful administration of effective strategies in family engagement; create opportunities for parents who have limited English proficiency, a disability or are underrepresented because of social economics or racial barriers to participate in education initiatives and enrichment workshops; provide technical assistance relating to parent and family engagement at the local school or district level.
  16. Maintain excellent records of all parent and family engagement activities, reports, surveys evaluations, funding, annual program evaluations, and communications to parents; ensure the school or district’s parent and family engagement program remains in compliance with all state and federal guidelines; stay informed of the most current parent and family engagement requirements and guidance as described in Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act
  17. Provide monthly workshops and/or events targeting academic achievement, improved attendance, and positive behavior.
  18. Foster collaboration with local, state, and national organizations.
  19. Oversee the Parent Advisory Council at the school and District and School levels.
  20. Participate in professional learning to remain abreast of changes to federal and state requirements.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned under the direction of the Federal Programs Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent skills in planning, organization, management, communication (both oral and written), and human relations. 
  • Thorough understanding of current educational principles, best practices, and procedures in program development, professional learning, instruction, and assessing program needs.
  • Proficient in using technology to support learning and as a tool to maintain accurate records/documents. 
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with principals, specialists, and teachers to implement and monitor the federal programs. 
  • Ability to prepare presentations for workshops and complete/maintain required federal/state/local documents/reports.
  • Must have a flexible schedule.  Although most activities occur during the day, some activities might require evening or weekend hours.

 

SALARY:                                                                                   TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Commensurate with education and experience.                        10 Months (Part Time)
