POSITION SUMMARY:

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for providing students with a comprehensive, standards-based music education in alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Music. This position fosters a love for music by engaging students in singing, playing instruments, moving to music, listening, and creating music. The preferred teacher candidate will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, and integrate music with other subject areas when appropriate.  This position plays a vital role in fostering musical literacy, creativity, and appreciation in young learners, helping them develop a lifelong connection to music.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited college or university is required, along with a valid Georgia teaching certificate in Music (P-12) or eligibility for certification. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Music and best practices in elementary music instruction. Effective classroom management, communication, and organizational skills are essential for creating a positive learning environment. Preferred candidates will have experience leading student performances and incorporating music technology into instruction.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for Music, ensuring students experience music through performance, creation, response, and connection.
  2. Teach fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, form, timbre, and dynamics through singing, instrument playing, movement, and listening activities.
  3. Foster student creativity by incorporating composition, improvisation, and music technology.
  4. Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and respect for music.
  5. Manage classroom materials, instruments, and resources to facilitate hands-on learning experiences.
  6. Plan and lead student performances, concerts, and school-wide music programs that showcase student learning and align with state standards.
  7. Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments based on GSE Music Standards, providing feedback to students and parents.
  8. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs and English learners.
  9. Use a variety of instructional strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
  10. Work collaboratively with colleagues, school leadership, and parents to support student learning and promote the music program.
  11. Participate in professional learning opportunities to stay current with best practices in music education and Georgia state requirements.
  12. Integrate music with other subjects when appropriate to enhance cross-curricular learning. Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support student learning and school initiatives. Share best practices and resources.
  13. Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and federal laws. Maintain accurate records of students’ grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers.

  3. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  4. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  5. Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  6. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  7. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  8. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
