POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graphics Design Teacher provides quality, standards-based instruction in the area of Graphic Design, assesses and encourages student progress, and manages an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement. This position involves providing students with a comprehensive education in graphic arts, design principles, and industry-standard software, while also overseeing and managing the publication and sale of the school yearbook. Additionally, the role includes designing and printing various school-related materials such as handbooks, posters, flyers, and promotional materials. The ideal candidate will be passionate about graphic arts education, possess strong design skills, and have the ability to manage projects and collaborate with school staff and students.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
We seek a candidate with a bachelor's degree (preferred) or an associate's degree with relevant experience, along with a valid Georgia career and technical education certificate with appropriate licensure and endorsements. The ideal candidate will have expertise in graphic design, digital media, professional communications, or audio/visual technology, as well as proficiency in industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite. A strong understanding of career pathways in graphic design, digital media, and visual communication is essential. Candidates should possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire students in a creative learning environment. Preferred qualifications include certifications in Technology Applications, Arts, or Audio/Visual Technology, as well as experience in project management and publication processes such as yearbook production. The ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and the community while maintaining attention to detail is also highly valued.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach assigned graphic design classes at designated times and locations.
- Develop and implement a curriculum covering typography, color theory, layout, digital illustration, and image editing.
- Introduce students to industry-standard graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences with real-world applications.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, offering constructive feedback.
- Prepare students for industry-recognized technical skill assessments.
- Integrate core academic content into graphic design instruction.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate them effectively.
- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students.
- Develop lesson plans, curriculum maps, and syllabi to ensure instructional preparedness.
- Model enthusiasm for graphic design and inspire student creativity.
- Maintain a positive, engaging, and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Enforce classroom behavior standards fairly and assist with implementing school policies regarding student conduct.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades as required by law and district policy.
- Communicate professionally with parents and the school community regarding student progress and yearbook sales.
- Oversee the yearbook publication process, including concept development, layout design, photography coordination, and final production.
- Lead students in creating the yearbook, ensuring high-quality design, content accuracy, and timely delivery.
- Organize and manage yearbook sales and distribution in coordination with school administration, staff, and students.
- Design/produce school-related materials such as handbooks, event posters, flyers, and promotional materials.
- Collaborate with school staff and administration to ensure design projects meet expectations and deadlines.
- Manage the printing process and oversee quality control of printed materials.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related discussions outside instructional hours as needed.
- Establish and maintain industry and post-secondary connections to support student participation in work-based learning and dual enrollment.
- Develop and lead a Graphic Design Program Advisory Committee, conducting at least two meetings annually and maintaining documentation.
- Stay current with trends in graphic design and technology to ensure the program aligns with industry standards.
- Participate in professional development workshops, conferences, and training sessions as required.
- Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Abide by the Code of Ethics for Educators and all Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
