POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, the Executive Director of Technology (EDT) provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for the district’s technology infrastructure, instructional technology integration, and data management systems. The EDT ensures the district’s technology ecosystem supports teaching, learning, and operational excellence while remaining secure, innovative, and aligned with the district’s strategic goals. This position bridges technology and education, ensuring digital tools enhance instructional outcomes while maintaining operational efficiency and data security.

Minimum Qualifications
The Executive Director of Technology must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) years of successful technology leadership experience, preferably in a K-12 public school district, with demonstrated expertise managing technology infrastructure, data systems, cybersecurity, and instructional technology initiatives. Experience managing multi-million-dollar technology budgets, including federal, state, and local funding sources, is required. Candidates should also have a thorough understanding of Georgia educational technology standards, along with laws such as FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA. While not required, holding a valid Georgia Leadership Certificate is preferred for candidates with an educational leadership background. Minimum qualifications may be waived at the Superintendent’s discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will hold a Degree in Educational Leadership, Information Systems, or a related field. Experience serving on a superintendent’s cabinet or leadership team is strongly preferred. Candidates with advanced industry certifications, such as CETL (Certified Education Technology Leader), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), or PMP (Project Management Professional), are highly desirable. Direct experience with Infinite Campus (SIS), instructional platforms, and state data reporting processes (including SLDS and FTE) is also preferred.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and executes a district-wide technology vision and strategic plan aligned with instructional and operational priorities.
- Advises the Superintendent, Cabinet, and Board of Education on all technology matters, ensuring technology serves as a lever for innovation and improvement.
- Serves as the district’s lead advisor on emerging technologies, data security, and digital learning trends.
- Directs the design, maintenance, and enhancement of the district’s technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, data systems, and cybersecurity frameworks.
- Ensures robust, secure, and scalable systems to support teaching, learning, assessment, and district operations.
- Oversees asset management, procurement, lifecycle planning, and technology replacement cycles.
- Leads district efforts to identify and procure grants, external funding, and innovative partnerships that enhance the district’s technology capabilities and promote best practices in instructional and operational technology.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning and Director of Instructional Technology to embed technology into instructional design, professional learning, and curriculum delivery.
- Ensures instructional technology supports personalized learning, digital content integration, and technology enhanced pedagogy.
- Oversees the implementation of learning management systems, classroom technologies, and student devices to support 21st-century learning.
- Ensures accurate and compliant data collection, management, and reporting for local, state, and federal accountability.
- Establishes policies and practices for data privacy, cybersecurity, and responsible use of student and employee data.
- Oversees student information systems, data analytics, and educational technology platforms to ensure effective data-driven decision-making.
- Directly supervises and evaluates the Technology Department, ensuring alignment between infrastructure, instructional needs, and district goals.
- Provides clear direction, professional development, and performance feedback to all technology staff.
- Builds capacity within the technology team to support innovation, customer service, and continuous improvement.
- Develops and manages technology budgets, ensuring efficient use of federal (E-Rate), state, and local funding.
- Pursues grants, partnerships, and alternative funding to expand technology access and innovation.
- Ensures transparency and fiscal responsibility in all technology-related spending.
- Engages with principals, instructional leaders, and district departments to align technology solutions with academic and operational needs.
- Communicates technology plans, policies, and initiatives clearly to stakeholders, including parents, staff, and community members.
- Represents the district in regional and state technology networks and advisory councils.
- Stays ahead of emerging trends in educational technology, cybersecurity, and data analytics to position the district for future success.
- Champions equity in technology access and digital learning opportunities for all students, regardless of socioeconomic status or learning needs.
- Establishes pilot programs and innovation initiatives to explore new tools and approaches that enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.
- Leads district initiatives related to the responsible use, integration, and ongoing evaluation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support instruction, data analysis, and operational efficiency.
- Ensures all technology operations comply with federal and state laws, including FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, and IDEA data requirements.
- Establishes and enforces acceptable use policies, data security protocols, and technology-related board policies.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Maintains regular attendance, participates in executive cabinet meetings, and serves as a collaborative problem solver within district leadership.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Executive Director of Technology directly supervises the Technology Department to ensure seamless coordination between instructional technology initiatives, infrastructure management, and technical support. The EDT provides leadership, direction, and performance evaluations for these positions, ensuring that all team members work collaboratively to support the district’s strategic goals. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the EDT is responsible for fostering professional growth within the department, ensuring staff receive ongoing training aligned with emerging technologies, cybersecurity best practices, and instructional technology trends. Effective communication, clear performance expectations, and a focus on innovation and customer service are critical components of this supervisory role.
