Job Description : 

The Special Education Co-Teacher collaborates with general education teachers to provide inclusive instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The co-teacher shares responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction to ensure access to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) while meeting students’ individualized learning, behavioral, and accommodation needs.

Instruction & Collaboration

  • Co-plan and co-teach with general education teachers using inclusive instructional models (e.g., team teaching, parallel teaching, station teaching, alternative teaching).
  • Provide differentiated instruction, accommodations, and modifications aligned with students’ IEPs.
  • Support students with disabilities in accessing grade-level content in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.

IEP Implementation & Compliance

  • Implement IEP goals, accommodations, and services with fidelity.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and progress reviews as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with IDEA, Georgia special education rules, and district procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Assist with administering classroom assessments and state-required assessments with appropriate accommodations.
  • Track and report progress toward IEP goals and academic benchmarks.

Classroom Management & Student Support

  • Support positive behavior interventions and strategies.
  • Assist with behavior plans (BIPs) and provide social-emotional support as needed.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful classroom environment for all learners.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech, OT, PT, counselors).
  • Participate in professional learning, faculty meetings, and required trainings.
  • Adhere to school system policies, professional ethics, and confidentiality requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid or eligible for Georgia Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education (appropriate P-12 field).
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Georgia special education rules, and inclusive instructional practices.
Qualification Required : Eligible for certification in the appropriate area as issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission
