QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets minimal certification standards as established by State Department of Education and by accrediting agencies. Must hold in-field certification. 
  2. Such additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

REPORTS TO: 

School level principal and/or other authorized administrators

JOB GOAL:

Provide quality instruction to the students of Tift County. Lead students toward fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides instruction and teaches at an appropriate instructional level.
  2. Provides content development through teacher-focused and student-focused content development.
  3. Builds for transfer by providing initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries.
  4. Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement, monitoring student progress, and responding to student performance.  This includes responding to adequate and inadequate student performances.  Also supports students.
  5. Manages the learning environment by using time efficiently.  Handles non-instructional tasks efficiently, and uses instructional time appropriately. Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.  Also maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom by monitoring behavior, and intervening when necessary.
  6. General duties and responsibilities include following professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student's records, parents, and colleagues.
    • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
    • Is available to students and parent for conferences according to system policies.
    • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
    • Maintains confidentiality of students and students' records.
    • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  7. Complies with school, system and state administrative regulations and board of education policies.
    • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
    • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
    • Is punctual.
    • Provides adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teacher.
    • Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
    •  Attends and participates in faculty meeting and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
    • Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  8. Demonstrates professional practices in teaching. 
    • Models correct use of language, oral and written.
    • Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
    • Implements designated curriculum.
    • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
    • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  9. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
    • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
    •  Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings.
  10. When appropriate, follow the approved guidelines for professional development.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and/or other authorized administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Ten month work year, unless stated differently in the contract and approved by the Board.

EVALUATION:

This position will be evaluated annually by the principal.
