Position Title: Instructor, Audio-Video Technology and Film Pathway (AVTF)

Department: Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE)

Reports To: School Principal/CTAE Director

Location: Tift County High School, Tifton, Georgia

Job Summary:

The Audio-Video Technology and Film (AVTF) Pathway Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) curriculum for the AVTF pathway. This role equips students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills in media production, broadcasting, filmmaking, editing, and related technologies, preparing them for post-secondary education and diverse careers in the film, television, and media industries. The instructor will foster a creative, collaborative, and professional learning environment that encourages critical thinking and technical skill development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Delivery:
    • Develop and implement daily lesson plans based on the GaDOE AVTF I, II, and III course standards.
    • Provide direct instruction in all phases of audio, video, and film production, including pre-production (scriptwriting, planning), production (camera operation, lighting, audio recording, studio production), and post-production (editing, graphics, sound design).
    • Teach industry-standard equipment use (cameras, lighting, microphones, audio/video control systems) and software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or AVID).
    • Integrate Georgia Film Academy (GFA) content and practices into the classroom where applicable, preparing students for GFA certification opportunities.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Curriculum & Assessment:
    • Align instruction with GaDOE AVTF pathway standards and industry expectations.
    • Prepare and administer tests, assignments, and projects to evaluate student progress and comprehension.
    • Guide students in developing portfolios, demo reels, and projects that meet industry standards.
    • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, such as the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Adobe Premiere Pro exam, and End of Pathway Assessments.
  • Classroom Management & Environment:
    • Foster a safe, professional, and creative classroom and studio environment that encourages collaboration, problem-solving, and technical skill development.
    • Supervise students in classroom, studio, and field production settings, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and professional ethics.
    • Manage and maintain classroom equipment inventory, ensuring proper usage, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance.
  • Career and College Readiness:
    • Facilitate student participation in Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as SkillsUSA, the Georgia Scholastic Press Association, Technology Student Association (TSA), and Student Television Network (STN), including competitions, leadership development, and community service.
    • Collaborate with local industry partners, post-secondary institutions, and the Georgia Film Academy to provide students with career and college readiness opportunities (e.g., guest speakers, field trips, internships, work-based learning).
    • Guide students through career exploration within the Arts, Audio-Video Technology, & Communications Career Cluster.
  • Professionalism & Collaboration:
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and equipment usage.
    • Attend required training, professional development, and industry workshops to stay current with industry trends and instructional best practices.
    • Collaborate with other faculty, staff, and administration to support student success and school-wide goals.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders regarding student performance and pathway progress.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by school or district administration.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mass Communications, Media Production, Film, Broadcast/Video Production, or a closely related field.
  • Certification: Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) Teaching Certificate in Mass Communications Cluster, Audio/Video Technology & Film, Broadcast Video Production, or a related field. (Candidates eligible for a Georgia Teaching Certificate through alternative pathways like GATAPP or industry certification may also be considered.)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable occupational experience in the audio, video, or film production industry within the last seven (7) years.
    • Experience working with high school students in an instructional setting is preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Proficiency with industry-standard audio and video production equipment (cameras, lighting, microphones, switchers).
    • Proficiency with industry-standard editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, AVID).
    • Strong understanding of pre-production, production, and post-production workflows.
    • Knowledge of GaDOE Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) pathways and standards.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction, manage a diverse classroom, and motivate students.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
    • Familiarity with the Georgia Film Academy (GFA) curriculum and certification process is a plus.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GFA Level 1 or higher certification.
  • Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) certification in Adobe Premiere Pro or related software.
  • Experience advising or participating in CTSOs (SkillsUSA, GSPA, TSA, STN).
  • Experience with work-based learning programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move equipment as needed for instructional and production activities.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including classrooms, studios, and field settings.
