Job Title:  Teacher, Regular Classroom                   Work Schedule: 190 Days

Reports To: Principal or designee                            FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: Based on Tattnall County School System Salary Schedule and dependent upon education and experience

Position Summary:

  • Provides instruction to students that implements effective, student-focused instructional strategies which support ongoing student progress toward achieving course, subject area and grade level goals in accordance to the district’s goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and meets Tattnall County’s professional qualifications.
  • Must be eligible for a clearance certificate AND be eligible for one of the following teaching certificates: standard renewable, induction, non-renewable, provisional, or waiver, except in areas where that district has waived certification
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people
  • Embodies the core values of the district and abides by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators

Essential Duties:

  1. Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on curriculum guidelines specified by school, district, state and federal authorities by teaching at an appropriate instructional level, developing content (providing teacher-focused and student-focused content development) and building for transfer (providing initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries).
  2. Provides classroom environment which promotes active learning in subject area
  3. Exhibits knowledge of performance-based instruction and assessment
  4. Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership
  5. Accounts for student attendance and punctuality
  6. Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures
  7. Is responsible for keeping his/her certificate valid for the field in which he/she is teaching as outlined by the state department of education and the county board of education.  Participates in in-service and staff development programs as appropriate.
  8. Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement, monitoring student progress, responding to adequate and inadequate student performance, and supporting students
  9. Complies with all school rules, regulations, and expectations prescribed the school principal or other authority at the local school level in addition to all system policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  10. Displays the proper attitude and cooperation necessary to function as an effective professional team member of the school staff; demonstrates respect for and acceptance of diverse opinions and views which may differ from one’s own personal viewpoint.
  11. Understands that the teacher holds a most important position as public relations agent for the school.  Realizes that opinions toward education are usually based upon confidence in teachers.  Assists parents and members of the community in understanding the purposes, vision, mission, and beliefs of the school system.
  12. Displays a loyal commitment to the school system and contributes toward upholding the educational beliefs of the school and system.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

a. Follows professional practices consistent with school and district policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues

  • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents
  • Is available to students and parents for conferences according to district policies
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents

b. Complies with school, district, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies

  • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
  • Is punctual
  • Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher
  • Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly
  • Attends and participates in faculty meeting and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy
  • Complies with conditions as stated in the Contract of Employment

c. Demonstrates professional practices in teaching

  • Models correct use of language, oral and written
  • Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content
  • Implements designated curriculum
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students

d. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order

  • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings

2. Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for paraprofessional(s), other supporting staff, and volunteer(s), and provides input to the administrative staff on the performance of these individuals.

3. Performs other duties as required by the district, the school, or student need, which may include supervisory responsibilities, bus duty, hall or cafeteria monitoring, club or activity sponsorship, athletic coaching, content-area competitions, coordinating special programs or functions, serving on committees, after-hours activities, and so forth.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, sit, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to handle, feel and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
