JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary/Elementary School Counselor
CONTRACT TERMS: 190-day calendar
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY: SCCS Certified Salary Schedule + position supplement
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or higher and a valid Georgia teaching certificate as required by the Professional Standards Commission
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
- Implement or assist in implementing a developmental counseling and guidance program considering the school needs
- Conduct individual counseling in areas of educational and personal need as referred by staff, family or self-referred
- Conduct group counseling in identified areas
- Prepare and submit notices to parents for students who are in danger of not being promoted
- Supervise the registration of students
- Cooperate in compiling and maintaining appropriate student records
- Work with registration and placement of new students
- Evaluate transcripts of incoming and transferring students and keep appropriate records
- Supervise the preparation and transmittal of transcripts and other official documents relating to students
- Serve as a resource to homeroom advisors and assist in homeroom advisement process
- Conduct classroom activities to support instruction, educational transitions, career pathways and personal development
- Assist with administration of standardized group testing
- Assist in analyzing test data
- Provide information to students and parents on career pathways and life development
- Consult and coordinate with staff, parents and community resources
- Assist in implementing crisis management plans
- Participate in Student Support Team
- Serve as a team member in planning and operation of the school
- Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position
- Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner
- Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment
- Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting (50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 30% walking, and 20% standing.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the Principal.
