JOB DESCRIPTION:  Teacher’s Aide, PreSchool ECE Program at Social Circle High School

CONTRACT TERMS:  THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION, 17 HOURS PER WEEK, NOT BENEFIT ELIGIBLE

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE:  SCCS Classified Salary Schedule Grade 1

Fair Labor Standards Act:  Non-exempt

Position Overview

The Teacher’s Aide supports classroom teachers in delivering effective instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment. This role involves assisting with instructional tasks, supervising students, and performing clerical duties to ensure smooth classroom operations. The aide works under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher and school administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Help manage classroom behavior by following and reinforcing school rules and teacher guidelines.
  • Supervise students during non-classroom times, such as lunch, recess, and class transitions.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays as directed by the teacher.
  • Perform clerical duties including copying, filing, and grading under teacher supervision.
  • Monitor students’ progress and report observations to the teacher.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, as directed by the teacher or special education staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
  • Assist in organizing and supervising field trips or special events.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine interest in supporting student development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with educational tools.

Work Environment

  • This position is based in a school setting, frequently interacting with children, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, move around the classroom, and occasionally lift light materials or equipment.
