TEACHER High School Math (Alternative School)

*Must have or be eligible for appropriate Georgia educator certification*

REPORTS TO: Principal   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Use teaching methods and instructional materials appropriate for objectives, learners, and the environment. Consideration should be given to learner needs, interests, and abilities.
 
2. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
 
3. Meet the attendance requirements.
 
4. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students within the confines of the state curriculum.
 
5. Develop appropriate lesson plans for classes and submit them upon request of the immediate supervisor.
 
6. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicating these objectives to students.
 
7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students involved.
 
8. Demonstrate, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
 
9. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
 
10. Plan and supervise appropriate activities for teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), substitute teacher(s), student-teacher(s), and student observers and evaluates their job performances when required.
 
11. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
 
12. Assist in determining the special needs of students and notifies specialists when required.
 
13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Report suspected cases of child abuse to the proper authority as required by law.
 
14. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so.
 
15. Maintain and improve professional stature by following professional practices consistent with the district's policies.
 
16. Establish and maintain a positive interpersonal relationship with their students, parents, and the community through conferences and written communication. Participate in organizations established at the school for teachers, parents, and the community.
 
17. Assist with non-instructional activities when required or requested to do so.
 
18. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
 
19. Physical Activities:  Routine physical activities required to ensure student supervision and safety and to fulfill job other responsibilities: walk, stand, and speak /communicate with students, staff, and parents verbally and by electronic means. Perform tasks involving light/moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling. Move around the classroom when engaging students. Be able to work in various environments: classrooms, outside, field trips, etc.
 
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
