INSTRUCTIONAL COACH (K-8))

Reports to:  Principal

General Duties:

The primary role of this individual is to work directly with teachers and staff under the direction of the principal to develop a standards-based learning environment. The Instructional Coach is to work closely with the principal in planning, implementing, and assessing efforts at the school to create a learning environment that supports Instructional achievement for all students. Principals are given a copy of the job description.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Hold certificate in appropriate level and have a minimum of five years of effective classroom experience.
  2. Commitment to ongoing professional learning based on identified needs.
  3. Effective teaching and classroom management experience.
  4. Knowledge of curriculum, instructional and classroom management strategies, materials, and assessment techniques.
  5. Experience working in a standards-based learning environment preferred.
  6. Skills in integrating and differentiating instruction.
  7. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  8. Skills in working with others in a professional learning environment, including mentoring and coaching teachers.
  9. Experience in working with others in a leadership role.
  10. Experience using data to improve instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support the implementation of performance standards via the curriculum.  Assists in the development and delivery of professional development learning activities and workshops leading to the improvement of teachers’ understanding of Georgia CCGPS and GPS and relevant instructional strategies. Work with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine and develop their knowledge and skills of Georgia CCGPS and GPS.  This may include in-class coaching, observing, modeling instructional strategies, providing assistance to teachers in analyzing test data and student work for the purpose of planning instruction that targets identified needs for remediation or acceleration.
  2. Model best practices for teachers.
  3. Coach teachers to improve student learning and provide feedback in a non-evaluative manner.
  4. Assist teachers in integrating and differentiating research-based, culturally-aware content and instruction for students.
  5. Assist teachers in planning upcoming units of study.
  6. Assist in the selection of instructional and professional materials.
  7. Research and guide the implementation of scientifically based best practices.
  8. Trains teachers to analyze student data and plan instruction accordingly.
  9. Plan appropriate professional learning sessions.
  10. Interact in a professional manner with students, teachers, administrators, parents, volunteers and others concerned with student achievement.
  11. Serve on district curriculum committees as appropriate.
  12. Works cooperatively with other Instructional Coaches, Curriculum Directors, Professional Learning Director and Title Programs Director to develop resources to ensure continuity throughout the District’s instructional program.
  13. Participates on district curriculum committees in the development of subject area curriculum maps, subject area benchmarks, benchmark assessments and teaching units.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
