SCHOOL NUTRITION ASSISTANT


GENERAL:. The typical workday is  4 hours. This position is for a Nutrition Assistant capable of reading a spreadsheet with menu options for the Alternative School located at Parker Mathis Learning Center. The applicant must be willing to assemble meals to put in transport containers, load and unload the Nutrition van with meals, drive to and from LHS to PMLC daily, serve students in cafeteria, operate the Point of Sale system, understand what a reimbursable meal is. 


The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more of equipment and products.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Preferred that applicant have demonstrated knowledge of best practices in school nutrition or restaurant experience to include but not limited to:
  3. Basic food preparation and service
  4. Basic food safety and safety procedures (Serv Safe Certification is a plus)
  5. Ability to read, write, and follow recipe instructions.
  6. Ability to lift equipment and supplies (+25 pounds)
  7. Dependable transportation.
  8. Available for varying shift from 9:00AM – 1:00PM.
  9. Must report to work in appropriate work attire that includes slip resistant, waterproof shoes (which cover the toes and heels), black pants, and short-sleeved red or pewter shirt.
  10. Jewelry may not be worn to work in the kitchen.
  11. Hair and nails must be well groomed. Nails may be no longer than the tips of the finger and no nail polish. A hairnet will be provided.
  12. Applicant must successfully pass criminal background check.
  13. Must have a valid Georgia Driver's License. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow recipes to prepare food for the SNP program. 
Follow procedures to conserve nutrients when preparing and cooking.
Use standardized recipes, measuring or weighing ingredients as directed.
Follow sanitation and safety procedures.
Serve foods throughout each meal period that are attractive, palatable and safe.
Monitor temperature of food on serving lines to ensure that no food approaches danger zone temperatures.
Portion food to meet nutritional needs of students and to fulfill regulations for fund reimbursement.
Implement a clean-up routine that will provide a sanitary and attractive work place that will maintain above 90% scores on health inspection and prevent transfer of bacteria to food.
Employ efficient work habits so that productivity is increased and all aspects of the job are completed within the allotted time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, climb on a ladder, or balance.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more of equipment and products.
