Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) 

 

 

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education, and Principals, and Superintendent. 

  •   License and Certification Qualifications: Georgia Speech-Language Pathology license and/or teaching certificate and a valid Georgia driver's license required. 
     
    Education Qualifications: Master's degree in speech-language pathology required. 
     
    Experience Qualifications: Professional Work Experience in Speech/Language therapy required. 
     
    Skills Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of due process requirements; thorough knowledge and skills conducting/interpreting comprehensive speech/language evaluations; thorough knowledge and skills of Early Childhood Special Education service delivery models; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and parents regarding speech/language disorders; ability to work collaboratively with other staff members to write eligibility and developmental reports and conduct eligibility meetings; and an ability to project and generate positive attitudes 
     
    Primary Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive arena assessments with appropriate team members and provide information to parents and team members regarding student abilities through eligibility reports and meetings. 
     
    1.    Participate in developmental arena assessments. 
    a.   Review referral information and coordinate plans for evaluation. 
    b.   Choose and administer appropriate assessment instruments. 
    c.   Develop written reports assigned by supervisor. 
     
    2.   Participate and/or lead eligibility meeting 
    a.  Schedule with all required team members. 
    b.  Communicate test results with families. 
    c.  Write eligibility reports referencing developmental norms and communicate eligibility status with families 
     
    3.  Work with parents on understanding speech/language disorders such as articulation, language, fluency, and voice. 
     
    4.   Provide guidance to school-based speech/language pathologists as needed. 
     
    5.   Create and document monthly reports to supervisors as required. 
     
    6.   Ensure compliance with Babies Can't Wait and Due Process guidelines including timely scheduling of evaluations, eligibility meetings and notifications of case managers. 
     
    7.   Assist with new projects as assigned. 
     
    8.   Perform other duties as assigned. 

 
 
Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
