QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a valid CDL Georgia Driver’s License. Pass the physical examination DE Form 0514 as required by the State Board of Education.  Minimum 2 years driving experience.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate school buses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to sun, fog, rain, snow, and ice.
  • Transport students and other authorized persons on “to and from” school routes in regular, special education, vocational, and kindergarten, or extracurricular trips as authorized by the local school system.
  • Successfully complete school bus driver training program and courses as prescribed by the state and local Board of Education.
  • Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspection of the vehicle and its special equipment.
  • Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
  • Operate the vehicle in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the policies of the state and local Board of Education.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by the transportation supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff and public.
  • Complete legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner.
  • Provide maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading.
  • Clean and service the vehicle to include sweeping; washing; installation of fuel, oil, coolant, etc.; to the extent prescribed by the transportation supervisor.
  • Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the local school system personnel.
  • Report any hazards along the existing route to the appropriate school official.
  • Project a positive image at all times when communicating with students, other drivers, and school personnel.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationship with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate teamwork in daily activities.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.
  • Participate in training to increase the skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Implement and adhere to appropriate safety procedures and crisis emergency plans to create and sustain a secure and healthy learning environment consistent with district and school rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with federal and state laws, Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia, and established state and local policies, regulations, and practices.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents or guardians, district and school personnel, and other stakeholders in ways that enhance student learning.
  • Perform, professionally and efficiently, all other duties as assigned.
