Goal

To assist the Superintendent by serving as the school’s operational and instructional leader, providing direction, guidance, and 
supervision of all staff, students, site-based programs, facilities, and resources within parameters established by the school system or 
other proper authorities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as the visionary leader of the school and continuously models the role as the instructional leader and the leader of leaders.
  • Ensures and monitors a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Leads the development and continuous enhancement of a comprehensive program of instructional, co-curricular and extracurricular programs and activities designed to develop the full human potential of students to the greatest extent practical considering limitations on resources, the need to maintain equitability, etc.
  • Develops a culture of the highest expectations.
  • Ensures that quality instruction is designed and delivered to students and that classroom instruction actively involves students in learning.
  • Ensures that work provided to students is monitored and modified so expected results can be achieved.
  • Effectively communicates a need for change based on knowledge of data, and manages the process of positive change.
  • Supports the beliefs adopted by Barrow County School System.
  • Effectively manages and supports the organization and operation of school governance teams.
  • Leads the school-based process of selecting new employees to ensure the best-suited candidates are hired.
  • Determines and directs employee assignments, duties, and activities of all staff members based at the school.
  • Monitors all visitors, including volunteers, system employees from other sites, service providers, substitute teachers, and others at a level sufficient to ensure students, staff and property are safe and secure.
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional relationships with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, business partners, the community, and outside agencies.
  • Continually supervises and evaluates the performance and effectiveness of programs and staff, following the procedures outlined in the Teacher Evaluation System. Addresses ineffectiveness and deficiencies by initiating appropriate disciplinary, remedial, or other corrective action.
  • Provides and monitors professional learning to enhance staff effectiveness and student achievement.
  • Ensure all school-level activities and operations comply with laws, rules, policies, directives and general standards of conduct and ethics. Ensures situations of non- compliance are corrected in a timely and effective manner and/or (as appropriate or required) reported to the proper district-level supervisor.
  • Allots or distributes funds, materials, supplies and other resources in an equitable manner that focuses first and foremost on the needs of students.
  • Tracks and manages funds in accordance with state law and local procedures. Ensures all school and district resources are used effectively, properly secured and preserved.
  • Works cooperatively with system-level personnel to ensure school programs, activities and practices support the system’s vision, mission, and objectives and that the school functions effectively as a unit of the system.
  • Participates positively in system-wide activities, in-service programs, and committees as appropriate or required.
  • Maintains a sufficient level of knowledge regarding relevant educational, legal, governmental, and financial topics to enable highly efficient, effective, and lawful management of all school affairs.
  • Reviews and updates the school purpose (vision, mission, and beliefs) with school staff yearly.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics.
  • Maintains required confidentiality.
  • Adheres to all safety requirements and monitors the facility for safety, security, and appearance.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and the ability to adapt to an extended / flexible work schedule.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/ or credentials as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participate in professional development/training classes and conferences designed to enhance knowledge and skills, as determined in by supervisor.
  • Review current development, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated by the Chief Academic Officer of the Barrow County School System.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff members, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribe style and format.  Ability to present information effectively to senior district management,  the Board of Education and public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical and statistical concepts such as percentages, averages, tendencies, trends and norms. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of and adherence to all district requirements, policies and procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to handle, feel and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualification Required : Master’s degree, or equivalent, in education required or other credential as authorized by the employer. Advanced degrees preferred. A minimum of five years of professional teaching in a classroom setting preferred. Valid Georgia Professional Certificate in Educational Leadership required.
