Goal

Assists teacher with the instruction and supervision of students and the management of resources to help students achieve maximum
advantage from educational opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilites

  • Develops, supplements and reinforces concepts and skills by working with individual students and student groups by providing
    supportive instruction, which may include assistance with note taking and make-up work.
  • Assists with routine record keeping.
  • Assists with the preparation of materials for instruction and parent education (including the copying/duplicating of materials,
    construction of displays/bulletin boards, learning centers and manipulatives).
  • Supervises students inside and outside the classroom such as during bus loading/unloading, physical education classes, meals and breaks, etc.
  • Physically assists students with special needs such as lifting, positioning, transferring or restraining to maximize their involvement in school activities.
  • Aware of medical needs of students and assists with medical emergencies as need
  • Assists with classroom management and assists in supporting communication and social skills
  • Supports the implementation of students’ Individualized Education Plans as directed by the teacher and maintains confidentiality.
  • Provides administrative support such as assisting with maintenance of student records, grading and assessing student work products and similar clerical tasks.
  • Assists with student assessment and collecting data on student progress
  • Assists with school-wide supervision as assigned by the school administrator.
  • Ensures that the classroom, equipment and other resources are maintained in safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Assists students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to medical routines, wash-up routines, clothing, hygiene, feeding, diapering and toileting.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and the ability to adapt to an extended / flexible work schedule.
  • Possesses and maintains valid and appropriate license, certificate and/ or credentials as may be required for this position.
  • Follows work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participates in professional development/training classes and conferences designed to enhance knowledge and skills, as determined by supervisor as well as required school and district meetings.
  • Reviews current development, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensures adherence to good safety procedures.
  • Follows federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

EVALUATION 

Performance will be evaluated by the principal or designee in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common 
inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff members, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribe style and format. Ability to present information effectively to senior district 
management, the Board of Education, and public groups. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 
Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical and statistical concepts such as percentages, averages, tendencies, trends, and norms. 
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. 

REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of and adherence to all district requirements, policies, and procedures.
