Goal

As assigned or directed by the Principal or designee, designs, develops, and implements high-quality student-centered instructional approaches that facilitate continuous progress of students toward course, subject area, and grade level objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaches subject area or grade level according to curriculum guidelines specified by school, district, state, and federal authorities.
  • Further develops and refines a high-level and challenging curriculum in each subject area.
  • Supports students.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics.
  • Designs quality standards-based instruction that actively involves students in 21st Century Skills; then monitors and modifies the instruction provided to students so expected results can be achieved.
  • Maintains ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the needs of students.
  • Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with the school’s and district’s missions including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning.
  • Collaborates with other faculty in delivering appropriate instructional approaches, working to serve the various learning styles and needs of students.
  • Continuously models the role of a leader.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and beliefs adopted by the Barrow County School System.
  • Shows empathy for and understanding of students.
  • Encourages development of the whole student by coaching, sponsoring, supervising or similarly participating in extracurricular activities.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilizes school and district resources, including technology. Meets or exceeds the district’s expectations for technological competence.
  • Develops with parents and students a cooperative and productive partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity.
  • Facilitates the resolution of school- related problems that might arise with students and parents. Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies.
  • Assesses student performance frequently and objectively in accordance with methodologies adopted by the school, district and state. 
  • Holds parent/student/teacher conferences in a manner consistent with school and district expectations.
  • Conducts home visits as needed.
  • Ensures physical assets are properly secured and preserved.
  • Follows all school, district, state and federal guidelines, rules, policies, procedures, regulations and directives.
  • Develops and maintains positive and professional relationships with supervisors and other staff members, school volunteers, outside agencies and the general community.
  • Engages in continuous intellectual and professional development to expand and enhance professional skills. Keeps abreast of current developments in other relevant educational and legal topics to enable efficient, effective and lawful conduct of duties and responsibilities.
  • Monitors visitors, including volunteers, district employees from other sites, service providers, substitute teachers, etc. at a level sufficient to ensure students, staff and property are safe and secure.
  • Manages the learning environment effectively.
  • Uses time efficiently; handles non-instructional tasks efficiently; uses instructional time appropriately.
  • Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom; monitors behavior; intervenes when necessary.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues and parents.
  • Complies with school, system and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
  • Provides adequate information, plans, and material for substitute teacher.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  • Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  • Models correct use of language both oral and written.
  • Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
  • Implements designated curriculum.
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings as prescribed by the school system.
  • Attends relevant school, district and professional meetings.
  • Maintains required confidentiality.
  • Adheres to all safety requirements.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/ or credentials as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participate in professional development/training classes and conferences designed to enhance knowledge and skills, as determined in by supervisor.
  • Review current development, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated by the Principal or designee in accordance with the Georgia Teacher Evaluation Program (School Counselor 
Instrument).

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff members, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribe style and format. Ability to present information effectively to senior district management, the Board of Education, and public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical and statistical concepts such as percentages, averages, tendencies, trends, and norms. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical 
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with 
awareness of and adherence to all district requirements, policies, and procedures.

Qualification Required : The minimum credential is the appropriate educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and meets the definition of a “highly qualified” teacher or other credential as authorized by the employer.
