JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Migrant Education Liaison
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Associate degree or two years of college course work completed, passed the paraprofessional GACE assessment, or hold a valid paraprofessional certificate
  3. Valid Driver’s License and Insurance
  4. Bilingual skills to include both verbal and written
  5. Strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, motivation and self-direction
  6. Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, etc.
  7. Experience in education or human services preferred

REPORTS TO:

  1. Principal of assigned school
  2. Migrant Contact Person

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Instruction/School Duties:

  1. Provide academic and other assistance beyond that available in school to migrant students by using he classroom push-in model to instruct small groups in the schools with the highest educational needs.
  2. Complete migrant student Priority for Services forms (PFS) to assist teachers in determining the need for instructional services.
  3. Assists school personnel by preparing and disseminating migrant records and reports.
  4. Promotes an awareness of the unique educational needs of migrant students.
  5. Communicate the progress and needs of migrant students to classroom teachers.
  6. Monitors and uses migrant student progress reports to provide appropriate services.
  7. Monitors school attendance for problems involving migrant students (suspensions, withdrawals, etc.)
  8. Promote and encourage parental involvement in the educational program.
  9. Initiate or participate in dropout prevention programs for migrant students. Refers migrant youth (16-21) to alternative educational opportunities as appropriate.
  10. Participate in appropriate workshops and in-service training.
  11.  Provide a written daily schedule to schools and the District Migrant Contact/Region 2.
  12. Maintain the following documents/paperwork (but not limited to) for assigned migrant students:
    • Supplemental Service Tracking form
    • Priority for Service Forms & Reports
    • Migrant Participant Report
    • Progress Reports per migrant student
  13. Ensure that migrant participants comply with health requirements set by the school system (e.g., set up appointments, notify parents, and use migrant funds as necessary).
  14. As assigned: Initiate or participate in dropout prevention programs for migrant students. Refers migrant youth (16-21) to alternative educational opportunities as appropriate.
  15. As assigned: Provide School Readiness services to qualifying participants between the ages of three and five who are not enrolled in a school setting via home-based.

Family/Student Engagement Responsibilities:

  1. Liaison between Spanish-speaking Migrant parents and assigned school work site.
  2. Promote school information and use of school resources by communicating to parents the access to different programs offered throughout the school system and community.
  3. Communicate/hold meetings between parents and teachers/school staff to ensure parent participation (IEP meetings, MTSS meetings, Parent-Teacher Conferences, etc.).
  4. Coordinate with District Migrant Contact to offer district-wide Migrant Parent Advisory Committee meetings.
  5. Promote, encourage, and schedule parent participation at and Regional Parent and Family Engagement Meetings set by GADOE/Region 2.
  6. Communicate via home visits and Transport parents to Regional and State PAC Meetings.

Identification & Recruitment Duties:

  1. Coordinate with the District Migrant Contact to develop and update a local Identification and recruitment (ID&R) Plan.
  2. Follow up on Occupational Surveys to identify possible migrant families.
  3. Interview families and out-of-school youth as needed to complete the Certificate of Eligibility.
  4. Collaborate with GADOE/Region 2-Regional Recruiter for recruiting and support services.
  5. Identify, establish, and maintain contact with local farmers, community contacts, and property owners to identify new families moving into the district.
  6. Promote the migrant education program and its services by visiting labor camps, farms, local motel/trailer parks, laundry mats, and ethnic food stores.

Documentation & Training Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain accurate and updated records for each assigned migrant participant.
  2. Assist District Migrant Contact in creating and evaluating Implementation Plans.
  3. Complete and submit reports as directed by Region 2(Migrant Participation Report, Priority for Service forms & reports, OSY profiles, etc.)
  4. Manage MSIX for withdrawal/departure forms.
  5. Participate in appropriate workshops and in-service training.

Performs other duties as assigned by District Migrant Contact.
