POSITION: Instructional Coach

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Georgia Professional Certification; successful teaching experience; demonstrated leadership in professional learning and instructional support.

RESPONSIBLE TO WHOM:
The building principal and/or other authorized administrators.

JOB GOAL:
To support and enhance instructional effectiveness by collaborating with teachers to improve classroom practices, deepen content knowledge, implement research-based strategies, and increase student achievement.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Planning

  • Professional Knowledge. The coach demonstrates expertise in curriculum design, content standards, pedagogical practices, and adult learning theory to provide relevant support to teachers.

  • Instructional Planning. The coach works collaboratively with educators to analyze data, plan instruction aligned to standards, and develop targeted strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

II. Instructional Delivery

  • Instructional Strategies. The coach models high-impact instructional practices, facilitates co-teaching opportunities, and provides job-embedded support focused on active student engagement and rigorous learning.

  • Differentiated Support. The coach personalizes support based on teacher needs and experience levels, offering feedback and resources that promote professional growth and instructional effectiveness.

III. Assessment of and for Learning

  • Assessment Strategies. The coach guides teachers in developing and utilizing formative and summative assessments that align with learning targets and support data-driven instruction.

  • Assessment Uses. The coach assists in interpreting assessment results to identify trends, adjust instruction, and improve student outcomes through collaborative data analysis and action planning.

IV. Learning Environment

  • Positive Learning Environment. The coach fosters a supportive, non-evaluative environment for adult learning by building trust, promoting risk-taking, and encouraging reflective practice.

  • Academically Challenging Environment. The coach supports the design and implementation of student-centered, standards-aligned instruction that promotes higher-order thinking and academic rigor.

V. Professionalism and Communication

  • Professionalism. The coach models ethical behavior, continuous learning, and commitment to the district’s mission and instructional vision. They participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational trends and best practices.

  • Communication. The coach communicates effectively with teachers, administrators, and stakeholders to promote a shared understanding of instructional goals, initiatives, and progress.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with teachers, instructional data, and colleagues.

  • Collaborates with school and district staff to plan and deliver professional learning.

  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all coaching conversations and documentation.

  • Facilitates regular communication with stakeholders about instructional progress and needs.

  • Provides leadership in implementing school-wide instructional goals and improvement initiatives.

B. Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and board of education policies.

  • Supports teachers during planning, instruction, and assessment cycles.

  • Participates in professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and school leadership teams.

  • Maintains accurate records of coaching interactions and supports.

  • Submits required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

  • Assists with curriculum implementation and fidelity monitoring.

C. Models effective instructional and communication practices.
D. Demonstrates deep knowledge of curriculum, pedagogy, and data analysis.
E. Supports consistent use of district-adopted instructional frameworks and strategies.
F. Develops and shares high-quality instructional resources and tools.
G. Encourages continuous reflection and goal setting with individual teachers and teams.
H. Helps maintain and organize instructional materials and resources.
I. Assists in leading or supporting professional learning events, workshops, and study groups.
J. Performs other assigned duties related to the role of instructional coach.
