The Tift County Schools is currently seeking candidates to fill a principal vacancy at
Eighth Street Middle School. The candidate must possess excellent communication
skills and have the ability to establish and maintain a respectful school
environment, while meeting the needs of a diverse student population, both
academically and socially. It is crucial the principal is an instructional leader capable
of establishing and maintaining a cultural identity that is congruent with the beliefs
of the Tift County Charter System.
Start Date: 1/27/2025, adjusted as needed.
Position Summary:
The School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality educational program in alignment with the district's vision and state standards. This position is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive school culture that supports academic excellence, social-emotional development, and equitable opportunities for all students.
The Principal oversees all aspects of school administration, including instructional leadership, staff development, budgeting, operations, and community engagement. They work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders to set and achieve goals that promote student success. The Principal is also accountable for compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal mandates while driving continuous improvement in teaching and learning outcomes.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Educational Leadership, Administration and/or Supervision
- Hold a clear renewable Georgia Tier 2 Leadership Certificate
- At least five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
- At least three years of successful experience in public school (K-12) administration and supervision
- The Board of Education reserves the right to accept equivalent qualifications, as the Board may deem appropriate and acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of instructional design, curriculum standards, and effective teaching strategies aligned with state standards and state assessments.
- Knowledge of supervision and evaluation practices, including Georgia’s evaluation systems.
- Familiarity with budgeting principles, financial planning, and purchasing processes in accordance with district and state guidelines.
- Expertise in public relations, community engagement, and effective communication strategies to build strong school-community partnerships.
- Knowledge of school safety protocols, crisis management procedures, and compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
- Strong instructional leadership skills to analyze student data, develop improvement plans, and lead professional development initiatives.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities to address complex educational, operational, and interpersonal challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Proficiency in budget development, resource allocation, and financial oversight to ensure efficient use of school funds.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and ensure compliance with deadlines, policies, and procedures.
Essential Duties
- Plans, implements, and evaluates an appropriate school curriculum.
- Responsible for recommending staff for employment to the superintendent or his/her designee.
- Implements and reports the school assessment program and uses assessment results to improve the instructional program.
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
- Develops schedules within established guides to meet student needs.
- Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
- Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
- Supervises the school's instructional program.
- Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with the local community.
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
- Works with school and system level staff in the supervision of such support services as maintenance, security, financial and accounting functions, transportation, food service, media activities, and other appropriate services.
- Assumes leadership of the school's athletic and extracurricular activities.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paper work required or appropriate to the school's administration.
- Participates in principals' meetings and such other meetings that are required and appropriate.
- Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of funds.
- Attends special events and extra-curricular events, and other school-sponsored activities.
- Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities.
- Works with appropriate members of the System administrative staff on issues and problems that affect the System, such as transportation, personnel, special services, etc.
- Keeps all staff members informed of changes in LBOE policies and procedures.
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems.
- Works with bus drivers in providing appropriate behavior on school buses.
- Secures Board approval, in advance, of all fund raising activities that involve students and teachers.
- Performs additional duties assigned by the Superintendent.
Accountability
This position is evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
